1200 GPD USP, Validated Water System for a USP Certified Testing Laboratory

The client had pre-existing, multiple wall mounted water purification units installed throughout the lab. Each individual unit required servicing approximately every 3 weeks. Subsequent to each service, the water quality had to be tested to ascertain USP standards.

The client had to wait 72 hours before getting the results of this test and all products produced during this time period had to be quarantined until the water test results were returned. Subsequently, the product could be released if the results came back satisfactory. Additionally, each service required the replacement of expensive proprietary components and associated labor charges for each individual purification.

Atlas designed and pre-engineered a CAD to fit into the client’s unique space requirements and pre-fabricated a custom central system to meet the current USP monogram, with subsequent installation by our install group, including all distribution, according to plumbing code. Technologies used included: Ion exchange; reverse osmosis; UV light; variable speed pump; BCF (bead and crevice free) piping; zero thread, zero dead leg; and sanitary distribution. Components for leak detection and containment were also installed, as well as other supportive components.

The system is being maintained by the Atlas High Purity service department on a scheduled maintenance program.

18 GPM Modular RODI for E-2 Water Specs for an Alternative Energy Design & Manufacturer

HPSA.JPGClient was using straight DI vessels with minimal pre-treatment and without reverse osmosis (RO). The result was inconsistent water quality and no established specifications against which to measure. The only instrumentation provided by the vendor was a red/green indicator light, commonly used for general DI water needs with less stringent requirements. DI bottles had to be exchanged weekly which became increasingly inefficient and expensive as the operation grew.

Initially, Atlas assisted the client in selecting a water specification common to their industry. Then Atlas was commissioned to design a modular system that would accommodate expansion and reduce the frequency of bottle exchanges from weekly to quarterly by incorporating RO and other technologies, thus reducing their service costs. Other system features included: touch screen with PLC; twin alternating pumps with VFDs; DI manifold for high flow; resin trap; and final filtration. Heat fused polypropylene with socket welds was used for distribution.

The system, along with all distribution was performed by Atlas personnel with all required permits pulled.

The system is being maintained by the Atlas High Purity service department on a scheduled maintenance program.

The client’s pre-existing skid mounted water purification system was deemed incapable of meeting current USP standards for meeting consistent, reliable purified water standards as they moved from an R&D stage to production. Also, client had moved to a new facility with limited space. This made it difficult for the skid system to be installed in a manner that would facilitate on-going maintenance, as skids typically require space on all sides to be properly serviced.

To meet the current USP monogram Atlas designed a custom fitted system utilizing CAD design with pre-determined space limitations and pre-engineered and pre-fabricated the system for final installation. Technologies included: Ion exchange; reverse osmosis; ultraviolet light; nitrogen blanketing system for storage tank; variable speed pump; divert to drain; butt-welded piping; leak detection; dual distribution; and other supportive components. The system, along with all distribution was performed by Atlas personnel with all required permits pulled.

The system is being maintained by the Atlas service department on a scheduled maintenance program.

20-60 GPD RODI System – “HYDRO-PASS” for an Emerging Life Sciences Development Company

The client needed Type 1 reagent grade water and was evolving to the point where purified water was required at more than one lab within the facility. Lab technicians had to fill up carboys at the only purification unit they had and carry it to the other lab as needed. This practice was deemed unsafe due to potential spillage and the weight of the larger containers.

The client had to either purchase another purification unit for the other lab or consider a small, central RODI system. They chose the HYDRO-PASS, which would deliver pressurized, purified water to multiple points of use. After installation, customer also connected into their glass washer, which was used for final rinsing of the glassware.

Atlas was able to install the system in a small utility closet, saving additional counter space in the lab and allowing for less intrusive service on the system (now capable of being performed outside of the clean room environment).

Technologies and features included: line pressure reverse osmosis; hydro-pneumatic storage; ultra violet light; mag drive pump; select resins for conductivity and organics; final filtration and in-line instrumentation; recirculating; sanitary faucets; and secondary containment with leak detection.

The system, along with all distribution was performed by Atlas personnel with all required permits pulled.
